VISITOR ATTRACTIONS IN AND AROUND CREETOWN

the famous Gem Rock Museum is well worth a visit, as are the Cat's Moustache Gallery, and also the Creetown Heritage Centre. Woodland walks at the Balloch Wood Community Project, begin behind the church.

Galloway Forest Park's Kirroughtree Visitor Centre, only 5 minutes drive away, is where a network of forest walks and off-road cycle trails begins. Routes are colour coded for time and fitness level.

There are lovely sandy beaches, for sailing, swimming and family fun, Gatehouse of Fleet, The Mill on the Fleet Visitor Centre, Cardoness Castle, Cream o' Galloway , Kirkcudbright Artist's Town, Castle Douglas Food Town within an easy 20 minute drive.

In the Machars area of Galloway, you will find the old county town of Wigtown, which is now Scotland's National Book Town, with over 20 book shops, and annual festivals.
The Whithorn Trust is an archeological site of early Christian activity in Scotland, and Bladnoch Distillery offers guided tours round Scotland's southernmost whisky distillery.

Fishing; The local area offers an excellent range of challenges for the angler. From Sea Fishing to working a quiet river beat with a fly, there is something for everyone.

Walking; The Galloway Hills provide a variety of hill walks. The nearest is Cairnsmore, which provides the backdrop for Creetown and a pleasant day's hillwalking. See the NS Walking Festival link below for guided walks.

Pony Trekking or Riding Lessons can also be arranged locally.

Golf: there are several 18-hole golf courses which are within easy driving distance.

Wigtownshire County Golf Club at Glenluce (20 Minutes)
Portpatrick Golf Club (Dunskey) (40 Minutes)
9-hole course at Gatehouse of Fleet.

You may prefer to amble round some Galloway Gardens that are open to the Public, Cally Gardens & Nursery at Gatehouse being one of the nearest.

If the weather is bad, try:
The Merrick Leisure Centre in Newton Stewart has a swimming pool, spa & sauna.
The Indoor Bowling Centre in Minnigaff, Newton Stewart welcomes visitors.
